Suspension and steering repair in Kamloops

Updated

What does a suspension inspection check?

A suspension and steering inspection at LSG Auto Nation in Kamloops checks your shocks, struts, springs, control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, rack and pinion, wheel bearings and sway bar links for wear, leaks and play. We explain what we found and what affects safety, and give you a quote before any repair.

How we can help

  • Shock and strut replacement

Worn shocks and struts make the car bounce, dip sharply when you brake and take longer to stop. We check for leaks and weak damping, and replace them in pairs on the same axle so the car handles evenly.

  • Control arms and bushings

Control arms hold each wheel in place and let it move up and down over bumps. Worn control arm bushings cause clunks, a wandering feel on the highway and uneven tire wear, and a bent arm can follow a hard pothole hit. We check the arms and bushings for play and cracks and replace them in pairs where needed.

  • Ball joints

Worn ball joints cause clunks over bumps, wandering on the highway and uneven tire wear. A badly worn ball joint can separate, so we measure the play and tell you how urgent the repair is.

  • Tie rod ends

Tie rods connect your steering to the front wheels. When the ends wear, the steering feels loose, the car wanders and the front tires wear on the edges. We check each tie rod end for play, replace the worn ones and set the wheel alignment afterward.

  • Rack and pinion and steering repair

The rack and pinion turns the steering wheel into the movement of your front wheels. A leaking rack, a clunk or play in the steering, or steering that feels heavy can all point to it. We check the rack, its boots and the power steering system, and repair or replace what is worn.

  • Wheel bearings

A worn wheel bearing makes a humming or growling noise that gets louder with speed, and can change when you turn. Left too long, it can overheat or let the wheel wobble. We find which bearing is worn with a road test and a check on the hoist, and replace it.

  • Custom suspension

Thinking about a levelling kit, a lift, or heavier-duty shocks and springs for towing or off-road driving? We install aftermarket suspension parts and set the wheel alignment afterward, so the vehicle drives straight and the tires wear evenly.

Suspension & Steering FAQ

How do I know if my shocks or struts are worn?

Common signs include extra bouncing after bumps, nose-diving when you brake, body roll in corners, fluid leaking from the shock body and uneven tire wear.

What causes a clunk over bumps?

Worn sway bar links, ball joints, control arm bushings or strut mounts are the usual causes. We inspect each part to find the source.

Why does my car pull to one side?

Pulling can be caused by uneven tire pressure, worn suspension or steering parts, a wheel alignment that's out, or a sticking brake caliper. We check all the likely causes.

Is it safe to drive with worn suspension?

Worn suspension increases stopping distances, reduces control in corners and wears out tires faster. A badly worn ball joint or tie rod can fail, so have it checked promptly.

Can my suspension repair be done the same day?

Same-day service is available for many suspension and steering repairs. We'll confirm the timing with your quote, before any work begins.
